Significantly reduce waste collection costs and significantly reduce litter. It’s possible with Mr. Fill’s smart waste bins. To make the digital platform just as innovative as the containers, the company called in the experts at Dawn Technology.
Mr. Fill’s mission is clear: no litter, lower CO₂ emissions, and reduced costs. They achieve this through smart, solar-powered compacting bins, underground press systems and smart sensors. All products communicate with the Smart City Manager, a platform built for any smart city in the world. Today, Mr. Fill’s bins can already be found in more than thirty countries.
While the Smart City Manager platform has been successful, it was ready for renewal and required more flexibility to meet the diverse needs of cities and clients.
Dawn Technology kicked off the project with a two-day design sprint, translating Mr. Fill’s vision into one key question: How can we make the performance of Mr. Fill bins more transparent in the portal, in a way that meets the needs of customers/municipalities?
We also spoke with end users to understand their specific needs and validated concepts for the future Smart City Manager. The design sprint concluded with a clear future plan for the portalWe then designed a new Smart City Manager that better meets the needs of Mr. Fill’s customers. We are expanding the portal in several stages:
Portal V1 (MVP): The registration and status display of containers. This results in better insight and minimizes container downtime.
Portal V2: The addition of reporting capabilities, multilingual support, advanced user management, and Excel export options. This provides the customer with in-depth insights and cost savings.
The development of the Smart City Manager is in full swing. We are working on further improvements to Portal V3:
Portal V3B: Introduction of a public API for third-party integration, expansion of remote software updates for other container models and a potential move to an IoT cloud.
Portal V4: Integration of the current waste collection app with the new version of the Smart City Manager.
